Yamaha Corporation’s 136-year history is rich with milestones that touch lives throughout the world with the gift of music. Its roots began when the founder, Torakusu Yamaha, repaired a broken reed organ in 1887. Throughout the 1900s, the company began manufacturing upright pianos, grand pianos, electronic organs, HiFi audio players and wind instruments. The 1960s brought about such innovations as acoustic and electric guitars, trumpets, drums & horns. Flutes, clarinets, mixers, speakers & amplifiers followed. Today, Yamaha builds hundreds of all types of musical instruments, related production gear, and audio visual equipment. It also operates the Yamaha Music School and the Yamaha Music Foundation.
